Therapy session
The assessment is done and the goals are agreed. Now you want sessions your child will genuinely enjoy, run by someone who tells you what's happening in normal words, so the progress doesn't stay locked inside the clinic room.

Where this work takes you
Steady, visible progress on goals you understand, at your child's pace. Not overnight, and never guaranteed by anyone honest, but measured, reviewed with you openly, and celebrated properly along the way. When your child no longer needs me, I'm the first to say so.
This is a good fit if
- Your child has had an assessment, with me or with the NHS, and therapy was recommended
- You want sessions your child looks forward to, with home practice that fits real family life
- You'd like nursery or school kept in the loop, so everyone is pulling in the same direction
It's not the right fit if
- Sessions start after an initial assessment, mine or a recent NHS one, so the goals are built on solid ground
- If your child's main difficulty is feeding or swallowing, that needs a specialist service, and I'll help you find one
How it unfolds
-
Warming up
Every session opens with a game your child chooses. It settles them, tells me what kind of day they're having, and sneaks in a first round of practice before anyone notices.
-
The work, disguised as games
The middle of the session targets your child's goals through play: puppets, picture cards, silly voices, whatever earns their attention. It looks like fun. It's structured, evidence-informed practice, and I'm tracking progress the whole way.
-
Five minutes for you
We end together: what we practised, why it matters, and one small thing to do at home. Five minutes a day in the bath or the car beats an hour on Sunday, and I'll show you exactly how.
Every session includes
- A 45-minute play-based session built around your child's goals
- The last five minutes with you: what we did, why, and what to practise
- Simple home practice woven into games you already play
- An open progress review at the end of every block of six sessions
- Liaison with nursery or school, with your consent, whenever it helps

When we started, strangers understood maybe half of what our son said and he'd stopped trying with new people. Six months on he ordered his own ice cream, loudly, and was understood first time. There are still sounds we're working on, and for the first time we know exactly how.

Where do sessions happen?
Usually at the clinic in Caversham, because the room is set up for it. Home visits work well for some children, and I also see children at nursery or school where that's agreed with staff. We pick whatever setting helps your child do their best.
How long until we see progress?
Honestly: it varies with the goal, the child and the week they're having. We set goals in blocks of six sessions, review openly at the end of each block, and I'll always tell you what I'm seeing, including when it's time to pause or stop.
